Buyers Advice

The Cost Of Having A Racehorse In Training Varies Depending On Who The Trainer Is, Where The Stable Is Located, Where The Horse Races, And How Healthy Your Horse Is.

A trainer’s daily rate can vary from $60 – $80 per day. This cost includes infrastructure, staff, feed etc.

Most trainers do not include veterinary or farrier costs in their daily rate. Veterinary costs are dependent on the health of your horse. Moreover, whilst in training your racehorse will need to be shod once a month, which can range in cost depending on the requirements of your racehorse but will generally average between $100 – $140.

The monthly cost of having your racehorse in work will also vary depending on what stage of its career it is at. For example, the cost of having a racehorse spelling is less than having a racehorse in full work.

MAGIC MILLIONS YEARLING SALES – WORTH THE PUNT

Investing in a racehorse is not just about watching it race, it becomes part of your lifestyle.

When you are ready to take that next step into racehorse ownership the Magic Millions Yearling Sales can be a great avenue to acquire a potential equine superstar. Although as yearlings their racing ability is well-concealed, assessing their temperament and physical credentials in the sales ring is an exciting process.

Magic Millions has offices here in Perth as well as the Gold Coast, Adelaide and Melbourne and representation in New Zealand. More than 5,000 yearlings are sold at Magic Millions sales each year.

Anyone can attend a Magic Millions sale and bid for yearlings provided they have the appropriate finance and have completed a buyer registration.

In recent years the Magic Millions Sales have produced quality gallopers such as Scenic Blast, Magnifisio and Luckygray locally as well as Atlantic Jewel, Buffering, Happy Trails, Pierro, Shocking and many more.

At the 2014 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sales a total of 311 lots were sold at an average price of $39,932 (exc GST) per lot.

The local Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale takes place in February each year. Magic Millions’ inaugural and showpiece event happens each January on the Gold Coast.

There are a number of feature races during the year that are exclusive to Magic Millions graduates. They include the Perth 2yo Classic worth $250,000 and the Perth 3yo Trophy worth $100,000 run on Magic Millions Race Day in February.

In addition the Gold Coast stages the lucrative 2yo and 3yo Classic races worth a combined $3,000,000 during their January carnival. There are a number of other Magic Millions yearling, tried horse and dispersal sales throughout the year all around Australia.
