Greyhound Stewards Inquiry – Owner Mr Gavin Levitzke

On Tuesday 17 August 2021, Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) Stewards concluded an inquiry into the conduct of Owner Mr Gavin Levitzke during his attendance at Greyhounds WA Cannington on Monday, 5 July 2021.  

The inquiry was opened on Thursday, 12 August 2021 where evidence was heard from Mr Gavin Levitzke, his advocate Mr Nicholas Hindle, Western Australian Greyhound Racing Association (WAGRA) Official Mr Brian Matthews and T2 Trainer Mr Neville Smith.   

Mr Gavin Levitzke pleaded guilty to a charge under GAR 86 (f) (iv) for engaging in the use of improper conduct towards WAGRA Official Mr Brian Matthews. 

Following submissions on penalty and thorough deliberation, Mr Levitzke was disqualified for a period of three months, effective immediately and expiring on 16 November 2021. 

In considering penalty, amongst other things, Stewards took the following into account: 

• Mr Levitzke personal circumstances 
• The circumstances surrounding the commission of the offence 
• Mr Levitzke early guilty plea and the apologies to Mr Matthews 
• The range of penalties commonly imposed for similar offences 
• The seriousness of the Charge.
