Stewards’ Inquiry – Thoroughbreds
5 January, 2010
Thoroughbred
RWWA Stewards today inquired into comments made by Trainer Mr L. Luciani in a live oncourse interview following the running of Race 5 the Auto Classic Handicap (1800m) at Ascot on Friday 1 January 2010.
Mr Luciani pleaded guilty to a charge of improper conduct under ARR175(q) for making offensive and derogatory remarks about the RWWA Official Handicappers. These remarks were made in relation to ALMOHAD, a gelding trained by Mr Luciani, not being included in the final field for the BMW-PERTH CUP (2400m).
In determining penalty Stewards were cognisant of the following:
- Mr Luciani’s guilty plea
- Mr Luciani’s written apology to the RWWA Chief Handicapper
- The circumstances of this matter
- Mr Luciani’s record of two prior convictions for improper conduct
- The potential of his remarks to be prejudicial to the image of racing
Mr L Luciani was fined the sum the two thousand dollars ($2,000.00).
