Belmont Wednesday, 5 May 2010 – Race 8. Ozbet.com.au Handicap (1300m) Stewards today concluded an Inquiry into interference received by TEN DEGREES (D. Staeck) and STEP AND GO (C. Chatfield) near the 800m. It was established that approaching the 800m turn, STEP AND GO was racing keenly, placing its rider in some difficulty and consequently shifted outwards making contact with TEN DEGREES resulting in that gelding having to restrain outwards to avoid the heels of NARVA (C. Harvey) which shifted inwards slightly. Stewards were of the opinion that the racing manner of STEP AND GO had contributed to this incident and as such no action was taken against any rider.
Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred in the Jockeys’ Room following the running of the above race. Jockey C. Harvey pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct under ARR.83(a) in that he was involved in an altercation with Jockey D. Staeck. Mr Harvey was subsequently fined the sum of $1,500.
Further, Stewards inquired into a report received from RWWA Principal Investigator Mr P. O’Reilly regarding an alleged incident outside a Belmont Restaurant on Saturday evening, 17 April 2010.
Evidence was taken from Licensed Trainers’ Mr K. Mcauley, Mr B. Pearce and Mr C. Pearce and Stablehand Mrs P. Mcauley. This Inquiry was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed to allow the Stewards to further question a witness in relation to this matter.
