Thoroughbred
RWWA Stewards today concluded the inquiry into a report received from the ChemCentre in Perth that the urine sample taken from IZADEMON after it dead heated for first place in Race 3 the Makin & Sons Maiden (1500m) at York on Thursday, 14 October 2010 contained flunixen.
This finding was verified by the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory in Sydney.
Evidence was taken from Mr Todd Harvey Trainer of IZADEMON, Managing Part-Owner Mr D. Smith, ChemCentre Manager Mr Charles Russo, RWWA Principal Investigator Mr P. O’Reilly, and RWWA Veterinarian Dr Judith Medd.
Trainer Mr Todd Harvey pleaded guilty to a charge under ARR.178 for bringing IZADEMON to the York Racecourse on Thursday, 14 October 2010 for the purpose of engaging in Race 3, the Makin & Sons Maiden (1500m) with the prohibited substance flunixin being detected in the post race urine sample taken from the gelding.
Further, Trainer Mr Todd Harvey pleaded guilty to breaching ARR.178F for failing to keep a record of treatment administered to IZADEMON and thus being unable to present a record of treatment to the Stewards when requested.
In relation to the offence under ARR.178, Stewards took into account the following factors:
- The seriousness of the charge.
- The nature of the prohibited substance and the low level detected.
- Mr Harvey’s guilty plea, prior good record, and personal circumstances.
For the offence under ARR 178, Mr Harvey was subsequently fined the sum of $6000.
In regard to the offence under ARR.178F, Mr Harvey was fined the sum of $500.
Acting under the provisions of ARR.177, IZADEMON was subsequently disqualified from the above race and the placings
