Stewards’ Inquiry – Thoroughbreds
30 December, 2010
Thoroughbred
Mr Mike Reed, Trainer of TOP GALLANT (NZ) which finished in last position when competing in Race 6 the Michael Shuttleworth Hcp (2000 metres) at Pinjarra Park on Sunday 26 December 2010, advised the Stewards that on return to the stable the gelding was found to have sustained an abrasion to the near fore heel and had associated low grade lameness in that leg.
On Thursday 30 December 2010, RWWA Veterinarian Dr Judith Medd examined TOP GALLANT (NZ) at the stables of Trainer Mike Reed and reported that the gelding was free in its action and displayed no signs of lameness.
Further, Trainer Mr Reed advised that he would now race TOP GALLANT (NZ) in a tongue tie as the gelding had returned with an elevated heart rate after its last race performance as reported by the Official race day Veterinarian and may have got its tongue over the bit during running.
