RWWA Stewards today inquired into the recent Police charges laid against Trainer Mr Shane Edwards in the Midland Police Court on Tuesday, 7 December 2010 in relation to the possession of an unauthorised apparatus (imitation mobile phone “electrical contrivance”) and an assault on a licensed Track Rider.
Evidence was taken from Trainer Mr Shane Edwards, Track Rider Mr John Anderson, Electrical Contractor Mr Michael Frekker, RWWA Veterinarian Dr Judith Medd and RWWA Principal Investigator Mr Phil O’Reilly.
Mr Damian Sheales, Barrister was granted permission to represent Mr Edwards.
Mr Edwards pleaded guilty to a charge under ARR175(hh) for having in his possession an electronic apparatus designed to deliver an electric shock.
Further Mr Edwards pleaded guilty to a charge under ARR175(q) for improper conduct in that on 8 November 2010 at his training establishment at Egerton he forcibly held Track Rider Mr Anderson by the neck, pushing him backwards.
Track rider Mr Anderson pleaded guilty to a charge under ARR175(q) for misconduct in that on or about 7 November 2010 he mistreated horses in the care of Trainer Mr Edwards.
Stewards adjourned the inquiry until Tuesday, 11 January 2010 at 11am in the Ascot Stewards Room at the Ascot Racecourse to consider the matter of penalty.
