18 May, 2009
Thoroughbred
Today RWWA Stewards concluded an inquiry into the reason for TRANSYLVANIAN (S. Meeres) and LA SOEUR NOIR (P. Hall) both falling near the 225m in Race 4 the Kalgoorlie/Boulder Reunion Handicap (1650m) at Belmont Wednesday,13 May 2009.
It was established that leaving the 250m TRANSYLVANIAN sustained a fracture to the off fore fetlock and fell, dislodging Jockey S. Meeres. LA SOEUR NOIR which was following was unable to avoid the fallen TRANSYLVANIAN and as a result the mare also fell and dislodged Jockey P. Hall.
Trainer Mr Kim Dupre advised that TRANSYLVANIAN had worked well leading up to the race and he had no concerns with its soundness. Jockey S. Meeres confirmed that the gelding had felt sound in the preliminary and during the race.
On the evidence presented the Stewards were satisfied that the incident was accidental and as such no further action was taken.
