Thoroughbred stewards’ inquiry – jockey Paul Harvey
Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) stewards today conducted an inquiry into the behaviour of jockey Paul Harvey (ARNIE’S BOY) in the stewards’ room during an inquiry following the running of Race 8, the TABtouch – Better Your Bed Handicap (1400M) in relation to an incident which occurred near the 100m.
After taking submissions from jockey Mr Paul Harvey, his wife Mrs Janelle Harvey and reviewing the audio proceedings of the inquiry, the stewards adjourned the inquiry until Tuesday, 31 May 2022 at 1.30pm at the offices of RWWA at 14 Hasler Road, Osborne Park.
It is the intention of the stewards to provide a transcript and audio recordings of the inquiry from Belmont Park on Wednesday, 25 May 2022 and to hear evidence from senior steward, Mr Chris Brown who was the steward-in-charge of the meeting.
Further, the stewards considered the provisions of LR 22, which states:
LR 22 Pending the outcome of an inquiry, investigation or objection, or where a person has been charged with an offence, the Stewards may direct one or more of the following-
- (a) that a horse shall not be nominated or compete in an event
- (b) that the horses of certain connections shall not be nominated for or start in an event
- (c) that a jockey shall not ride or otherwise take part in a race
- (d) that a licence or any other type of authority or permission be suspended
- (e) that no transfers effecting ownership and/or training, involving that person be effected
After considering the seriousness of this matter, stewards invoked LR 22 ( c ) and directed that Mr Paul Harvey is not to ride in any race until the conclusion of the inquiry.
