Thoroughbred stewards’ inquiry – jockey Paul Harvey (ARNIE’S BOY) – Race 8, TABtouch-Better Your Bet Handicap
Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) stewards today concluded the adjourned inquiry from Belmont Park on Wednesday, 25 May 2022, where jockey Paul Harvey (ARNIE’S BOY) was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in Race 8, the TABtouch-Better Your Bet Handicap (1400m).
Penalty-related submissions were taken from Mr Harvey.
Mr Harvey was subsequently suspended from riding in races for a period of twelve (12) days to commence midnight 9 June 2022, being the expiry date of his current suspension of fourteen (14) days under AR228(c) imposed on Tuesday, 31 May 2022, and to expire at midnight on Tuesday, 14 June 2022, following the decision of the stewards to order that seven (7) days are to be served concurrently with the remaining five (5) days being cumulative to his current suspension.
In consideration of penalty, stewards took into account the following factors:
- The level of carelessness and interference being deemed to be in the mid-range
- The consequences of his actions, in that one runner received interference
- His fair record in relation to careless riding
- His personal circumstances
- His submissions in relation to the racing manner of ARNIE’S BOY.
