Thoroughbred Stewards Inquiry – Trainer Mr Des Waldock (CHANCERY)
On Tuesday 1 June 2021, Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) Stewards conducted an inquiry into a report received from RWWA Manager Veterinary Services Dr Judith Medd, in relation to the condition of retired racehorse, 10 year old gelding CHANCERY.
Evidence was taken from Dr J Medd and Trainer Mr D Waldock.
Mr Waldock was found guilty to a charge under AR 231 (1) (b) (iv) for failing to provide proper and sufficient nutrition to a thoroughbred horse in his care.
In considering penalty, Stewards took into account:
- Mr Waldock’s personal circumstances, including but not limited to his current health status.
- Mr Waldock’s clear record over a period of 45 years.
- Previous penalties issued for related matters.
- That whilst the condition of CHANCERY was unacceptable and of serious concern, Mr Waldock had rehomed the gelding.
- The condition of CHANCERY had improved since being rehomed.
- The seriousness of the matter and the need for deterrence to reinforce and maintain the high standards of animal welfare that apply within the industry overall.
Mr Waldock had his Trainer’s licence suspended for a period of three months, effective immediately.
