Thoroughbred Stewards Inquiry – Trainer Mr Roy Rogers (NOTTA MOCHA)

RWWA Stewards have concluded an investigation into reports received from the ChemCentre (WA) and Racing Science Centre (Qld) that routine veterinary medications were detected or indicated in a post-mortem blood sample taken from NOTTA MOCHA after falling during the early stages of Race 7 at Albany on 16 February 2020.
In accordance with euthanasia protocols, various routine veterinary medications are known to be administered to horses by on-track veterinarians to ensure humane euthanasia. The Stewards investigation therefore involved confirming whether the reported medications were present as a result of the process of euthanasia.
Following investigation, after considering all the available evidence, Stewards could not be satisfied that the detected routine veterinary medications were not administered in the course of euthanasia.
Under these circumstances there is insufficient evidence to take the matter further as the Stewards could not be satisfied to the required standard that Mr Rogers had potentially breached any rules of racing.
Stewards reserve all rights to revisit this matter should new evidence emerge to warrant such course of action, however, in the absence of such circumstances the matter is considered closed.
