Simon Miller’s high opinion of Market Ruler was further validated after she scored a resounding all the way victory in the Mumm Champagne Plate (1000m) at Belmont on Saturday.
Staring at hot $1.40 favourite, Market Ruler was sent straight to the front by jockey, William Pike and shot clear in the straight to put the race beyond any doubt.
The Universal Ruler filly bolted in by 3 ½ lengths, comfortably accounting for debutant Essential Spice and Regal Counsel, who filled the minor placings.
Continuing Miller’s dominance of two-year-races this season, Market Ruler advanced her record to three wins and a second from five starts with stake earnings surpassing the $100,000 mark.
After winning on debut at Bunbury in March, Market Ruler ran a creditable ninth to stable mate, Valour Road in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) at Ascot on April 14.
She then ran second to unbeaten gelding Black Sabbath, before posting another impressive victory at her previous start two weeks back when she defeated Pablo’s Poem by three lengths.
Miller lavished praise on Market Ruler and said her resilience has been the most satisfying aspect of her maiden campaign.
“She is a good filly who is professional and does everything right,” Miller said.
“I threw her into the deep end going to the Karrakatta, but you only get one chance in it.
“She didn’t disgrace herself and since has gone on really well.
“I’m amazed that she’s had five runs and shows no signs of going off the boil.
“While you are winning that easy I’m tempted to go again in two weeks.”
