Channel 7 racing expert Francesca Cumani has been announced as guest judge for the WA Country Cups Fashions on the Field Final at Ascot Racecourse, Saturday 2 December 2017.
“I am looking forward to visiting Perth and getting a taste of the Summer Racing Carnival in Western Australia,” said Cumani.
Growing up in one of Europe’s racing dynasties, Cumani is the daughter of Italian-born Newmarket-based trainer, Luca Cumani, who has captured Group races in 12 countries including the Breeders Cup, Japan Cup and Hong Kong Cup.
He also came agonisingly close to securing Australia’s greatest race: the Melbourne Cup when Purple Moon (2007) and Bauer (2008) ran nail-biting seconds and Mount Athos ran third (2013).
With such a rich pedigree in racing there was never any doubt that Francesca Cumani would follow in the footsteps of her family’s history and she is globally recognised for her knowledge of racing and horses.
After riding in races as an amateur jockey and studying languages at University, Cumani stepped into a successful media profile as host of Winning Post on CNN and racing analyst on Channel 7’s Melbourne Cup coverage. She is currently the co-host of ITV’s coverage of the U.K. flat racing season, including events such as Royal Ascot and Goodwood, returning to Australia in October for Seven’s Spring Racing Carnival coverage.
The WA Country Cups Fashions on the Field Final is part of an initiative by Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA), which will see finalists from regional heats, held at major country race meetings across the state, battle it out on the catwalk to take home a trip for two to London with Motive Travel, to attend arguably the most famous racing carnival in the world, Royal Ascot.
To add to the prize pool the winner will also receive $10,000 spending money thanks to TABtouch, as well as a diamond piece from Leon Baker Jewellers, and a voucher for popular Western Australian handbag and accessory label, Jessica Bratich.
Cumani will be a guest judge for the state-wide racing fashion competition at Ascot and will also be attending the WA Country Cups High Tea function at Perth’s Pan Pacific on Friday 1 December, which will feature an exclusive runway show by the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival. The High Tea will be a celebration of women in racing and will feature a Q&A with Cumani.
“This is a fantastic initiative which not only showcases racing in metropolitan and country Western Australia, but also promotes international horse racing, with the winner attending the Royal Ascot in England,” said Cumani.
The next regional heat for 2017 WA Country Cups Fashions on the Field will be held at the Broome Turf Club’s Ladies Day on Tuesday 15th August.
Tickets are available for the WA Country Cups High Tea for $80+GST. For more information click here.
