Community TAB of Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA) has awarded Armadale Gymnastics Club a $4000 sports grant.
Armadale Gymnastics Club was one of two groups to receive a grant this month, selected from over 300 sporting clubs that applied from around WA.
Armadale Gymnastics Club President Jodie Hamilton said the funds will go towards obtaining their own building to give the club a place to call home and provide a haven for members to attend to enjoy classes in a safe and comfortable environment.
“By obtaining our own building we would be able to provide more low cost classes to the community, as well as allowing us to travel out to schools and broaden the experience of gymnastics to more community members,” Ms Hamilton said.
“In our new building we will broaden our classes allowing us to move into different gymsports including acro, cheerleading, rhythmic, FreeG, Team Gym and will also allow our local community to use it for events, creating more revenue for the Club.
“It would also mean being able to eliminate having to set up equipment every day saving the club over $15,000 a year in set up wages, as well as avoiding any chance of injury to staff and members, which would allow our coaches to spend more time teaching and less time setting up.”
Ms Hamilton added that most importantly the club provides a place for members to feel safe, have their time to enjoy sport and make lifelong friendships.
“Our coaches are not just coaches but mentors and the sport also teaches life lessons that will stay with members for ever,” she said.
“Many of our coaches are gymnasts within our club, giving back to the club but also volunteering much time to events that we attend in the community.
“Being an inclusive club we provide classes for children from two years old through to adults, children with health issues, males and females. Everyone is welcome at Armadale Gymnastics Club!”
RWWA CEO Richard Burt said the organisation recognises the importance of grass roots sport throughout WA.
“We understand that it takes time and resources to keep a club running within the community, so we are pleased to be giving the opportunity to help relieve this burden on clubs,” Mr Burt said.
“RWWA has been supporting the WA sport and recreation industry for many years through providing millions of dollars over 10 years to the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) and more recently through Community TAB sponsoring the WA Football League and WA Integrated Football Program.”
Community TAB will provide at least one grant each month to a sporting club to further their contribution to the sport and recreation industry in WA. Once a club applies for a grant, the application will stay within the pool until the grant is awarded.
Sporting clubs can apply for a grant at communitytab.com.au. Terms and Conditions apply.
