Industry leaders join forces to promote responsible gambling
18 October, 2017
The Gaming and Wagering Commission, Crown Perth, Lotterywest, Racing and Wagering Western Australia, Centrecare and Medibank have joined forces to promote responsible gambling practices across the State.
Responsible Gambling Awareness Week will take place from 23 – 29 October and emphases the need for balance and control in ensuring gambling remains an enjoyable pastime and not a problem.
Director of Centrecare Tony Pietropiccolo said Responsible Gambling Awareness Week isn’t just about promoting responsible gambling practices but was also an opportunity to inform the community of the support services available to them.
“Although gambling is an ad hoc experience for most people, we need to acknowledge that for some people it adversely affects many areas of their life,” Mr Pietropiccolo said.
“I’d encourage any individual experiencing difficulty to seek help to minimise the harm problem gambling can cause.
“Centrecare has a gambling help counselling service here in WA and people can also access Gambling Help Online and the Gamble Aware website,” he added.
Mr Pietropiccolo commended the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Crown Perth, Lotterywest and Racing and Wagering Western Australia for coming together to promote the initiative.
“Responsible Gambling Awareness Week is a great example of the many ways that government and industry can collaborate to address important issues,” he said.
“Throughout the week the three major players will promote the campaign theme of ‘When does the fun stop for you’ at Crown Casino, in Lotterywest retail stores and throughout TAB outlets,” he added.
Problem gambling support services are also available by calling the Problem Gambling Helpline on 1800 858 858 or visiting gamblinghelponline.org.au.
