Leederville Tennis Club awarded Community TAB Sports Grant
19 March, 2019
Community TAB of Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA) has awarded Leederville Tennis Club a $2000 sports grant.
The tennis club was one of four sporting clubs to receive a grant recently, selected from over 400 sporting clubs that have applied from around WA.
Leederville Tennis Club (LTC) President Wendy Ireland said the Community TAB grant delivers an important message that smaller grass roots clubs are still relevant, supported and funded.
“Our club could not survive without the efforts of a core group of selfless and tireless volunteers,” Ms Ireland said.
“A community grant, no matter how small or large, lifts the spirits, encourages volunteers to keep going and, importantly, enables us to invest in equipment for our club, in this case supporting the investment in a defibrillator and cabinet.”
“LTC is proud of the role it plays in our local community within the City of Vincent and more broadly our engagement and support for the Perth community.”
“Our membership and users of the club range from kids just running around getting active and having fun, to local school programs and to players in their 70s and well beyond, who are still active but more importantly enjoy the social interaction and friendships of being part of the LTC family.”
“Our LTC family believes very passionately in giving back, often staging dedicated fundraising days for Foodbank WA, Breast Cancer Care WA and the Leukaemia Foundation, we all have a role to play in supporting one another.”
The Club also added acknowledgement of the Community TAB program for its social citizenship and giving back to locals in the WA community in such a tangible way.
RWWA CEO Richard Burt said the organisation recognises the importance of grass roots sports throughout WA.
“We understand that it takes time and resources to keep a club running within the community, so we are pleased to be giving the opportunity to help relieve this burden on clubs,” Mr Burt said.
Community TAB will provide at least one grant each month to a sporting club to further their contribution to the sport and recreation industry in WA. Once a club applies for a grant, the application will stay within the pool until the grant is awarded.
