Perth City Swimming Club awarded Community TAB Sports Grant
3 January, 2019
Perth City Swimming Club was awarded a $4000 sports grant from Community TAB as one of two groups to receive a grant this month, selected from over 400 sporting clubs that applied from around WA.
Community TAB has been awarding at least one grant each month to a local sporting club as part of an ongoing commitment to giving back to the WA community by supporting sport and recreation in WA.
Perth City Swimming Club President Heidi Gan said the club is thrilled to be awarded a grant as the club relies on fundraising to provide opportunities for its members to achieve their goals.
“Perth City Swimming Club is run solely by volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure the Club is an inclusive, fun and competitive environment to be a part of. Our mission at Perth City is to create a sustainable and supportive environment which promotes personal growth and inspires the pursuit of excellence through swimming,” Ms Gan said.
“The grant will be put towards a number of items which will directly benefit our members such as new swimming equipment, subsidising a training camp, and athlete education including swimming-related seminars and guest speakers to inspire our swimmers this season.
“The Club has a long history of actively engaging with the wider community and is a place where swimmers from grass roots level up to elite come to learn, develop and excel in swimming in a welcoming, diverse and inclusive environment. Our members learn to work with their coaches and teammates, give back to the community through volunteering roles, develop a strong sense of discipline and work ethic, and most importantly, our members learn to not only become good swimmers but also good people.”
CEO Richard Burt from Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA), which funds the initiative through Community TAB, said RWWA recognises the importance of grassroots sports throughout WA.
“We understand that it takes time and resources to keep a club such as the Perth City Swimming Club running so we are pleased to be giving the opportunity to help relieve this burden on the club,” Mr Burt said.
“RWWA has been supporting the WA sport and recreation industry for many years, providing millions of dollars over 10 years to the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) and more recently, through the Community TAB Program.”
Community TAB has been giving back to the WA community since 2014 through major partnerships, state-wide fundraising programs and sponsorship of prestigious events.
