The WA Fashions on the Field ‘South West Regional Heat’ was held at Bunbury Turf Club's Ladies Day on Wednesday 6 March.
Ladies travelled from all over the state for their chance to score a spot in the Final.
Khristina Vasko was the lucky winner of the South West Regional Heat, followed by Debbie Garland in second place, Susan McCloy in third place and Ainslie Jackson as the Best of the Locals.
Ms Vasko will now go on to compete in the WA Fashions on the Field Final to be held at Perth Racing on Saturday, 30 November.
WA Fashions on the Field caught up with Ms Vasko to talk about country racing and racing fashion, as well as the upcoming final, here is what she had to say:
1. What do you love about country racing?
I love all racing events and venues, but the country locations do have a certain twist and allure. Relaxed friendly vibe, local punters and awesome fashion trends that makes country racing really exciting.
2. How long have you been going to the races for and what are some of your favourite memories?
Definitely a long term race go-er now! My most treasured memories are around meeting and mingling with the horses - their eyes get me every time. During the 'Own the Dream' series I also had the opportunity to be at the barriers when a race was starting which is still my most favourite memory at the races.
3. Why do you enter Fashions on the Field?
I started entering Fashions on the Field a couple of years ago to build confidence and tick off a bucket list item. But since that first competition I really found that I was completely captivated with the planning and creation of outfits and really enjoyed being at the track with all of the other contestants and having a laugh and champas.
4. Describe your style.
I often laugh to myself about describing my style, since I really don't know if I have a particular style. I tend to love colour and playing with colour combinations. I also think I tend to be more conservative in my styling but still keeping up with current trends in an effort to fuse styles together. Basically whatever I like and I think works!
5. What tips do you have for people entering Fashions on the Field?
For both the men and women - just to give it a go! If it is a bucket list item for you, or you have a love of fashion and millinery and want to meet some cool people along the way, then make your way to the next competition and hop up on stage. My tips for styling would be think about what colours or trends you can draw upon to make you pop on that stage and stand out. Also, if you don’t shop online then get online ASAP - not only for buying new outfits, but hiring dresses and millinery is such a great option too these days.
6. What are some of your favourite things about the South West region?
I love everything about the South West region of WA and could list off 1000 things that make it amazing. Being a major foodie and red wine lover that really is top of my list and where better to experience that than in the vicinity of lush forests and ancient caves located in this region.
7. What does it mean to you to be going to ascot to compete in the final?
It is the best feeling being a part of the finals and really appreciate the effort and support from WA Fashion on the Field to continue to make this possible each year for everyone. Cannot wait for November and good luck to the rest of the contestants in the coming competitions!
