RWWA ANNOUNCES 2018 WA GOTY CONTENDERS

Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) is pleased to announce that the following three greyhounds (in alphabetical order) as the final contenders for the 2018 WA Greyhound of the Year (GOTY) Title – CHIPS AND TRAINS, TROUPER MONELLI and WEST ON AUGIE.
CHIPS AND TRAINS raced 27 times during 2018 for 11 wins and eight placings for a total of $116,290 in stakes and a further $23,000 in WESTCHA$E bonuses. CHIPS AND TRAINS started his year off in late May winning on debut. It did not take long for him to show that he was above average by quickly working through the lower grades. He went on to make six feature race finals for the year, adding the Group 2 All Stars and the Group 3 Young Stars Classic to his trophy cabinet. The first greyhound to achieve this Group Race double in the same calendar year.
TROUPER MONELLI raced 49 times during 2018 for 12 wins and 19 placings for a total of $253,265 in stakes and a further $46,000 in WESTCHA$E bonuses. TROUPER MONELLI raced in FFA company for the whole year, with his greatest triumph being the Group 1 Perth Cup. He contested a total of seven feature finals throughout the year including the invitation only Group 1 Top Gun.
WEST ON AUGIE raced 36 times during 2018 for 20 wins and five placings for a total of $284,385 in stakes and a further $47,500 in WESTCHA$E bonuses. WEST ON AUGIE showed his potential early on in his career when winning the Puppy Classic. He made 15 feature race finals for the year, winning eight of them, with his biggest successes coming in the Group 2 WA Derby and the Group 1 National Sprint final at Sandown Park.
Acknowledgment must also be given to BUNDLES GALORE, CROPDUSTER, QUICK JAGGER, MOMENT TO JIVE and VANDERWORP, who were also under consideration until the final contender list was produced.
