Greyhounds As Pets is a not-for-profit initiative of Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA), which is responsible for finding homes for greyhounds once their racing career is over.

Gaze into their eyes and you will glimpse the love and loyalty that will be yours if you open your heart and home to a greyhound. When adopted, these peaceful souls soon settle in and become part of the family.
Gentle and well mannered, they thrive on human companionship and form bonds quickly. Greyhounds require very little exercise; they’re more likely to want to curl up for a snooze in the sun than run around the yard all day.
Each greyhound that enters the program completes a 4-6 week period in foster care to acclimatise them to life as a pet, so they’re already familiar with all of the sights and sounds of the home environment. The staff at Greyhounds as Pets will work with you to ensure that the dog you receive will fit in well with your individual home and family.
ABOUT GREYHOUNDS
The retired racing greyhound makes a wonderful, affectionate pet. Contrary to some beliefs, these dogs are not highly strung, nor are they at all aggressive. They are in fact very calm, docile and loyal animals.
The nature of the racing industry means that during their racing life Greyhounds are exposed to many different and unfamiliar people and plenty of other greyhounds. They adapt very quickly to different situations meaning that their transition from racing greyhound to retired pet usually happens very smoothly.
A very strong trait of the Greyhound is its desire and need for human contact. Owners of pet companion greyhounds constantly comment on their “second shadow”. The Greyhound seems most content when sitting on the couch beside you with their long elegant head nestled snugly in your lap.
