Retrospective Analysis of Samples for Synephrine
22 September, 2016
Harness
In accordance with the RWWA Rules of Harness Racing and Integrity Assurance Committee ‘Sample Retention’ policy, selected swab samples are periodically retained from each of the three codes for the purpose of re-analysis at a subsequent time to determine if any banned or prohibited substances that were not detected at the time of the initial screening can be detected with advancements in analytical equipment and testing methodologies.
Stewards routinely make requests of the ChemCentre from time to time for stored samples to undergo such additional testing or re-testing.
In July 2016, RWWA Stewards requested the ChemCentre (WA) to conduct retrospective analysis of a number of selected stored harness samples for a variety of prohibited substances including Synephrine and other substances not indicated for use in horses (e.g. Levamisole).
The ChemCentre has today advised that these samples have now been analysed accordingly with no prohibited substances detected in any of these samples.
