WA Country Cups caught up with Ms Hardie to talk about country racing and racing fashion, as well as the upcoming final, here is what she had to say:
1. What do you love about country racing? I love the vibe about country racing whether it be a main event such as Ladies Day, the Cup or just a general race day, it’s always guaranteed to be a great day out for the family from the little kids that can run around and have a ball right through to the grandparents that can sit back and enjoy the races.
2. How long have you been going to the races for and what are some of your favourite memories? I have been attending the races for as long as I can remember, it was our family day out every second Saturday to watch the family horses run. My favourite memories would definitely be from when I was growing up around the race track the excitement of going down to the visit the horse before their races and the fun we used to have with all the other kids running around and getting dirty, I remember mum used to put my sister and I in little floral dresses with our white lace frilled socks and we’d come home our hair was out and socks were filthy – but we’d had a good day.
3. Why do you enter Fashions on the Field? I enter Fashions on the Field as I love putting together the perfect outfit. As stressful as it can be, it can also be fun and exciting once it all comes together.
4. Describe your style. I would say my style is mix of contemporary and classic. I love the classic look however I like to modernise it with current trends, colours & fabrics and make a statement whether it be my headpiece or another accessory.
5. What tips do you have for people entering Fashions on the Field? Don’t be afraid to take risks! Make sure your accessories tie your outfit together and your shoes match your belt and/or clutch.
6. What are some of your favourite things about the Gascoyne region? I absolutely love the Gascoyne’s weather, coastlines – beautiful beaches, camping spots etc. We really are spoilt living in the Gascoyne as it’s known as the fruit bowl of WA the fresh produce we have available direct from our local growers provides residents and visitors with the freshest produce around, from veggies, fruit and herbs through to my favourite…..chocolate coated bananas!
7. What does it mean to you to be going to ascot to compete in the final? I am so honoured to be representing the Gascoyne region in the final of WA Country Cups Fashions on the Field. The opportunity to be a part of this is once in a life time and the feedback I’ve heard from last year’s Gascoyne representative Ave has me even more excited! It’s a great opportunity for people all over WA to showcase their own individual talents and style and meet likeminded people that enjoy FOTF, I cannot wait!
