Applications Open for HorsePower Scholarships
HorsePower Australia (HorsePower) and Racing and Wagering Western Australia’s (RWWA) Community TAB have today opened applications for its Hearts & Horses Scholarship program, which provides financial assistance to participants accessing HorsePower programs.
HorsePower provides equine programs to individuals with physical, intellectual, emotional and social challenges through activities such as horseback riding, carriage driving, vaulting, hippotherapy and walking with horses.
Community TAB recently announced its recommitment to HorsePower by donating $80,000 to support its services, $15,000 of which will go towards the Hearts & Horses Scholarships.
HorsePower Executive Officer Kelly Mansfield said the impact of the HorsePower programs is evident every day.
“The therapeutic effects of equine therapy and programs can be life changing,” Ms Mansfield said.
“The benefits of spending time with a horse can not only impact a person’s physical health, but also provide benefits in the areas of education, learning, social inclusion, mental health and self-esteem. “
“We are grateful for the ongoing support we receive from Community TAB, which enables us to establish this scholarship fund for participants who would otherwise not be able to participate in HorsePower programs due to their financial or personal situation.”
RWWA Chairman Jeff Ovens said Community TAB is proud to support participants in their HorsePower therapy journey.
“Many participants endure extensive medical and therapy costs throughout their life, and we are pleased we can assist them in accessing the equine therapy they require and enjoy,” Mr Ovens said.
“We have been fortunate to meet many of the participants through our partnership with HorsePower, and we have seen first-hand the benefits and enjoyment participants get from attending these programs.”
“We hope the Hearts & Horses scholarship can relieves some financial barriers for participants and their families.”
Community TAB and HorsePower Australia have been in partnership since 2014, with Community TAB having contributed $480,000 to the organisation to date.
There are 14 HorsePower centres in WA including, Albany, Margaret River, Collie, Hills, Peel, Swan Valley, Denmark, Mid-West, Mandurah and Brigadoon.
