York Racing and Community TAB to fundraise for local Pony Club
York Racing and Community TAB have joined forces to raise funds for Mount Bakewell Pony Club at the annual York Cup on Sunday 8 November.
York Racing Secretary Shelly Turner said it is great to be involved in a program that supports all involved.
“Due to COVID-19, and being a small club, it has been hard for the pony club to gain extra funds, this format allows them to have a fun day giving children a worthwhile experience, while raising funds,” Ms Turner said.
“The Pony Club supplies national accredited coaches to riders from the ages of five to 25 and has now extended its membership to adult riders, as well as provide opportunities for riders with disabilities, and also includes and caters for Off the Track horses.”
“Funds raised will go towards supporting the purchase of national show jumping equipment as the club conducts State and Agricultural accredited jumping competitions.”
Community TAB will be matching funds raised on the day up to $2,000.
RWWA Chair Jeff Ovens said the positive effects of the Community TAB program have been extensive for regional WA, with 48 of WA’s race clubs based in regional communities.
“RWWA recognises that race clubs across WA play an important role in their community, contributing both economically and socially, with partnerships like these an example of the strong connection race clubs have within the communities in which they operate,” Mr Ovens said.
“Community TAB is proud to play our part in giving back to the community, and our donation to Mount Bakewell Pony Club is just one of more than 50 community organisations that will be supported as part of the program.”
The Community TAB dollar matching program has been in effect from early 2015 and has since raised over $600,000 for not-for-profit organisations around WA through partnerships with local race clubs.
