Broome Netball Association awarded Community TAB Sports Grant
Racing and Wagering Western Australia’s (RWWA) Community TAB has awarded Broome Netball Association with a $2,000 sports grant.
The club will use the grant to send their developing officials to Perth to further enhance their netball umpiring skills by participating in training sessions with metropolitan-based officials and competitions.
Broome Netball Association President Christie Milenkovic said the club has a culture focussed on fun, fairness, family involvement and fundamental skills.
“Being awarded the Community TAB Sports Grant will allow the Broome Netball Association volunteers a fantastic, unique umpiring development opportunity in Perth. Our dedicated officials will be given the chance to experience netball at a different standard, gain valuable advice and knowledge from other officials and further expand their skills to better improve netball in Broome,” Christie said.
“Broome Netball umpires have consistently been involved in supporting community events over many years, whether it is high-level umpires or developing umpires, the skills and development they’ve received from the Association has identified them as candidates for volunteering at many community events.”
“Umpires have given up their time to umpire games for school carnivals such as V Swans Port Hedland Carnival in Broome, Kimberley Cup, NW Naidoc Carnival and Intra/Interschool netball events. The Broome Netball umpires support the mixed netball program by enabling the competition to be adjudicated by well qualified umpires. Without the support of these umpires the competition could not function.”
“We would like to thank Community TAB for supporting the Broome Netball Association and its officials, without funding such as this these opportunities would not be possible for our members. “
RWWA Chief Executive Officer Ian Edwards said the organisation recognises the importance of grassroots sport in Western Australia.
“We are honoured to be supporting local sporting clubs to ensure they can continue to play a vital role in their community,” Ian said.
“Grassroots sporting clubs not only provide important benefits for individual wellbeing, but they also bring people from the local community together.”
Applications are now open for all Western Australian sporting clubs, allowing communities from all corners of the State to apply for financial support.
Community TAB will be providing two sporting clubs with a grant each month, with applications able to be submitted here.
