Big Things on the Horizon for Ragazzo Mach
After his return to racing for his new connections, Ragazzo Mach NZ has pulled up a treat after Monday’s run, with trainer Mike Reed impressed with how the talented three-year-old performed at Pinjarra. All going well, Reed expects to race him again next week at Pinjarra or at Gloucester Park on Tuesday for another run in the country grades before stepping him up and setting him for a three-year-old race in metro company at Gloucester Park on a Friday night.
“He pulled up really good, I couldn’t be happier with him. He came home and licked the bowl clean,”
“If he goes as good as I think he is, just before the Pacing Cup and Fremantle Cup, I’ll throw him in a couple of fast class races and try and get some form in those races and I might nominate him for the cups,”
“I think he’s a very, very good horse, he could be the best ever that I’ve had.” Reed said
His move to WA was anything but smooth with Covid19 restrictions putting a halt on flights to WA, Ragazzo Mach NZ was floated to Sydney from Melbourne with his connections hoping to get a flight, but after being grounded for five weeks in NSW, they made the decision to float the horse over instead of waiting for flights to resume.
“When he came across he got a crack in his back foot, so we had to wait for that to grow out, just everything had gone with him,”
“But the last two to three months have been good, the crack has just about grown out and everything is fine.”
With just over six weeks until the Fremantle Cup kicks off on January 21, Reed is confident that he has a horse good enough for the race in the rising four-year-old and will be aiming to get Ragazzo Mach NZ ready for the Group 1 carnival in WA, with the WA Pacing Cup just two weeks later on Feb 4, 2022.
“I think he’s definitely good enough (for the Pacing and Fremantle Cups), just what he’s shown me on the track and everything else. I clocked his last mile the other at Pinjarra was 1:54:0, and Mark (Reed) said he was just jogging.”
“He’s a very laid-back sort of horse, when you pull him out he just gets going, when they get along side him he just eases up, but I definitely think he’s definitely a Pacing Cup horse for sure and certain.”
Winning races is undeniably exciting for any owner, but with ownership relatively new for Jim and Wilma Giumelli, the duo, who has invested a significant amount into the industry with their now 14 horse team are undoubtedly going to be having plenty of thrills with Regazzo Mach NZ.
