WA Racing Update – January 2022
The WA Government eased public health rules for Perth and Peel from 6am Tuesday 4 January 2022, with the following measures remaining in place until at least 6pm Friday 7 January 2022:
- Masks will be mandatory in all public indoor settings, including any indoor areas at racecourses in the Perth and Peel area.
- Masks are recommended to be worn outside where physical distancing is not possible. RWWA requires masks in the following outside areas:
- Greyhound racetracks
- Kennelling areas
- Parade areas
- During the boxing of greyhounds
- Catching pens
- Equine racetracks
- Mounting yards/parade rings
- Horse stalls
- Check in using the SafeWA app or a manual contact register.
- These requirements also apply to anyone who has been in Perth or Peel since Thursday, 16 December and travelling to a race meeting in a different part of the state.
Ongoing proof of vaccination requirements
Proof of vaccination (double dose) by patrons is required for race meetings in the Perth and Peel regions as announced by the WA Government.
At this time, industry participants and essential personnel working at race meetings are not required to show proof of vaccination while working in work areas such as mounting yards, parade rings, horse stalls and kennelling areas.
However, industry participants and essential personnel must provide proof of being double-dose vaccinated against COVID-19 when entering patron areas of a race course. Proof may be a digital or paper-based form, along with approved identification.
Proof of vaccination will not apply for training or race trials but check in using the SafeWA app or a manual contact register continues to be mandatory. More information on how to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination is here.
Apart from these requirements, race meetings, trials and trackwork will proceed as normal unless advised otherwise. Please ensure appropriate physical distancing and good hygiene practices.

These measures will be reviewed regularly and the Chief Health Officer will continue to monitor the situation and provide advice.
A number of additional potential exposure sites have been identified across Western Australia. Exposure sites are listed on the HealthyWA website. It is likely more sites will be added and people are encouraged to keep checking the site regularly.
Anyone who has been to any of the exposure sites should follow the relevant testing and quarantine instructions. To find COVID-19 testing clinics click here.
