Prentice Positive On Slipper Winner
Trainer Justin Prentice is confident Golden Slipper winner Tricky Miki can score another feature race win in tonight’s APG 3YO Colts & Geldings Sales Classic (2130m) at Gloucester Park.
The lightly raced colt’s prospects of winning the $50,000 event received a boost earlier in the week when he drew barrier two.
Seven No Trumps drew barrier one and trainer Peter Tilbrook indicated he would like to lead earlier in the week.
Despite the potential for the one to lead, Prentice said he wanted to capitalise on the good draw and expected Tricky Miki would still look to find the front.
“It looks a good draw on paper,” Prentice told TABradio.
“It sounds like the one wants to hold, but we have to use our advantage.
“If he leads, I think he will be hard to beat.”
Gary Hall Jnr won his appeal against a 12-day suspension and is free to drive the three-year-old this evening.
Tricky Miki opened $1.85 with TABtouch and has been supported into $1.70.
Floewriter, who won last year’s APG 2YO Colts & Geldings Sales Classic, is on the second line of betting at $6, alongside stablemate Rock On Top.
Swingband is the only other runner in single figures at $7.
Prentice also has the favourite in the APG 2YO Colts & Geldings Sales Classic (1730m) in the form of stylish heat winner Valedictorian.
Valedictorian drew barrier one and Prentice said he was happy with how the gelding was ahead of the Group 1.
“He seems to have come through it really well,” he said.
“It was a hot day, and it was a tough run and I was a little bit concerned how he’d pull up after it.
“He seems happy in himself.”
