Lewis To Play A Key Role At Gloucester Park
Champion driver Chris Lewis will be out to add to his astounding record of 3,010 Gloucester Park wins with two key drives in the feature races this evening.
Lewis, who notched up the 3,000 Gloucester Park wins milestone earlier this year, teams up with Born To Boogie in The Trots WA Pace (2130m) and Lady Jadore in the APG 4YO Consolation Final (1730m).
Both mares will start from the coveted barrier one and loom as major players in their respective races.
The Ross Olivieri-trained Born To Boogie gets another chance to tackle open Free-For-All class tonight, having had her last three starts in fillies and mares Free-For-All company.
Like her last attempt against the geldings, Born To Boogie has barrier one and was installed a $2.15 favourite with TABtouch.
Lewis said he expected to hold the front but admitted he wouldn’t be surprised to cop pressure from the small field.
“There’s a few scenarios there,” he told TABradio.
“We are going to be going out there having more than plan A I’d say.
“I’d say Ross would be pretty keen to lead here, so we will come out hard and see what unfolds.”
Texas Tiger ($2.90) and Double Up ($3.40) are expected to be the main dangers to Born To Boogie.
Lewis teams up with Lady Jadore in the Group 2 feature for the first time tonight, with regular driver Aldo Cortopassi out through injury.
It’s just the second time in the mare’s 16 start career she’s drawn barrier one.
Lewis said the mare would get every opportunity to score another feature race win, having taken out the 2020 APG Sales Classic for the two-year-old fillies.
“We will definitely come out because it’s only over a mile,” he said.
“I’d say the Belton’s would definitely be keen to come out hard.”
Tonight’s Gloucester Park meeting gets underway at 5.10.
