Silk | No. – Horse – Form Comment | Price |
---|---|---|
1 – Buffering – The champ returns to Perth after taking on Australia’s best sprinters over the Melbourne Spring Carnival. Won this race narrowly in 2013 however his form is probably not at the same level heading into this year. Should never been discounted and will prove hard to run down if he finds the top from the gate. | $4.00 |
|
2 – Fast ‘N’ Rocking – Victorian visitor who comes to WA with the right type of form with a win over The Quarterback at Caulfield and a close up 4th behind Australia’s best sprinter Chautauqua in the Manikato. Has drawn ideally for this in gate 3 and should be able to get a soft run and be saved for the final crack at them. Each way appeal. | $6.50 |
|
3 – Watermans Bay – Returned to racing with a narrow 2nd behind Rock Magic in the Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes. Meets his rivals on that occasion better at the weights and should have derived plenty of benefit from that run. Was narrowly beaten by Magnifisio in the race last year and expect him to be right there again with some luck in running. | $7.50 | |
4 – Shining Knight – Flies under the radar somewhat despite having an outstanding first-up record. Tuned up for this with a comfortable trial win at Bunbury a month ago. Will be nice and fresh and the Pike/Williams/Peters combination will ensure he will have admirers. Likely to be ridden quietly so a hot speed will suit and capable of running on into the money. | $11.00 |
|
5 – Dawn Approach – Was overrun last time out in the Asian Beau Stakes but the drop back to 1200m is more suitable for him. Likely to find this tough from a wide gate with plenty of other speed drawn around him. | $51.00 | |
6 – Rommel – WA Guineas winner as a 3 year old who then went onto win at Caulfield in February. Resumes today with one trial run under his belt which should have tightened him up for this. Might just find a few of the seasoned Group 1 campaigners a little too sharp. | $31.00 | |
7 – Rock Magic – Won the Colonel Reeves Stakes at nice odds when jockey Jarrad Noske timed his run to perfection to defeat Watermans Bay. His racing pattern will mean he needs luck when ready to produce a run but that effort suggests he could play a part. Include in multiples. | $13.00 | |
8 – Akhedasset – His win in the Prince of Wales Stakes over better performed gallopers did surprise however he struggled in weaker grade last start. Looks tested from an awkward draw. | $101.00 | |
9 – Liberty’s Gem – Has a terrific record at the 1200m and has shown that he is capable of winning races after graduating from 3yo company. The draw allows Knuckey to pick where he wants to land in running with most of the other speed drawn wider. He’s tough and not without a chance at longer odds. | $26.00 | |
10 – Checkpoint – Hasn’t raced for over 12 months and his last win was back in January 2013. His best form is enough to be competitive but prefer to watch him go around in this. | $41.00 | |
11 – Madassa – Front running galloper who was another to miss out at the barrier draw. His wins have been in lesser company and faces a tough assignment today. Prefer others. | $41.00 | |
12 – Sujet – Has shown a brilliant turn of foot throughout his career and will enjoy the speed on. The wide draw is not as detrimental to his chances as he’s likely to race rearwards. Has some hope at big odds with a patient ride from Craig Williams. | $41.00 | |
13 – Magnifisio – Last year’s winner of the race improved sharply when second-up behind Black Heart Bart in the Lee Steere Stakes. Her chances took a hit when she drew gate 17 and will need something special from Jason Brown to land a spot in running. Oozes class so don’t underestimate her, just needs some luck. | $8.50 |
|
14 – Cool Trade – Will jump from the inside gate in the million dollar feature but will be needing the breaks to go her way. Hard to see her troubling the elite sprinters in this field on her 7th beaten 6 lengths in the Colonel Reeves Stakes. | ||
15 – Sheidel – SCRATCHED | ||
16 – Lucky Street – The only 3 year old in the race will appreciate the 53.5kgs carried by jockey Shaun McGruddy. He showed that he was back to his dominant 2yo form when leading all the way to win in restricted company a fortnight ago. He ran good time that day but will need to take yet another step forward. The wide draw makes it tougher but he’s a definite chance. | $8.00 | |
17 (E1) – Silverstream – Has gained a start with the scratching of Sheidel and has been met with strong support since. Her record speaks for itself and will have the services of Damien Oliver looking for yet another Group 1 victory. Drawn ideally, treat with respect. | $11.00 |
