Kalgoorlie race day a win for Variety WA
The racing community came together in full stride at the recent Community Day at Kalgoorlie Boulder Racing Club, rallying to raise money and awareness for Variety WA.
The annual event offered more than a thrilling day of racing – with children’s entertainment, a pizza throwing competition and an auction on the agenda to add money to the pot for the Goldfields-based charity.
Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) added $5000 to the funds raised on the day through its Race Club Community Program, bringing the total donation to an impressive $68,000.
Kalgoorlie Boulder Racing Club CEO Robert Murison said he was delighted to support Variety’s work in the region.
“Variety do a fantastic job in supporting local kids and families who are facing challenges, such as sickness, disadvantage or living with a disability, and they have several projects on the go that will directly benefit kids in the area,” Robert said.
“The Community Day is a highlight in our racing calendar, bringing a total of 755 people on course, and it is always a pleasure to witness the generosity of the Kalgoorlie community”.
With 47 of WA’s 50 race clubs based in remote and regional communities, RWWA CEO Ian Edwards said the positive effects of the fundraising program have been extensive for community groups and not-for-profits across the state.
“Race clubs around WA play an important role in their communities – both economically and socially – with partnerships like this a prime example of the strong connection race clubs have with their communities,” Ian said.
“Kalgoorlie Boulder Racing Club chose a very worthy cause for their fundraising and we are pleased to contribute to their cause.
“RWWA is committed to making a positive contribution to our state. The Race Club Community Program allows clubs to guide our giving by proposing a local group or charity they believe deserves support and we match the funds raised on special race days up to $5000.”
Since its inception in 2015, race clubs and RWWA’s Race Club Community Program have jointly raised more than $980,000 for charitable organisations around WA.
