Bunbury trainer Peter Giadresco is unfazed that Profit Street has escaped attention and hasn’t been discussed as a serious contender in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot on Saturday.
Profit Street ran fourth to Viddora in last year’s Winterbottom Stakes, but in the 2018 edition of the $1 million dollar sprint he will go in as one of the rank outsiders.
“I think it’s fantastic that he has been forgotten,” Giadresco said.
“I love it and it doesn’t change my mind one bit.
“It doesn’t bother me at all and good luck if you get a price.
“I know I don’t have a champion, but I know I have a good horse.
“And in a big race you need everything going right.
“He is going every bit as good as last year.
“I wouldn’t be going into the race if I didn’t think he could win.”
Profit Street ran a slashing third behind Dainty Tess in the Group 3 Prince Of Wales Stakes (1000m) when first-up early this month, running the fastest final 600m (33.26sec).
The son of Viscount then had his colours lowered when he was outgunned in the Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m), beating just one runner home and finishing sixth.
Giadresco has warned supporters to rule a line through the run.
“There was no pace in the race and it didn’t suit him,” Giadresco said.
“The first two horses in running ran one-two.
“Go back to the previous race when he rattled home in the fastest last 600m.
“He finished less than a length to Dainty Tess in a genuinely run race.
“As far I’m concerned he never went around.
“He just needs pace, the right gate and a little luck.
“His work on Saturday was absolutely magnificent.
“I’m as happy with him as I was last year.”
Profit Strreet has drawn barrier two. Mitchell Pateman takes the ride.
“I’m very happy with that,” Giadresco said.
“He knows the horse and is a strong rider.”
Profit Street is currently quoted a $31 chance with TABtouch.
