Opportunities Drive Turner Home

Apprentice Jordan Turner will be a welcome addition to Perth riding ranks after he makes a permanent move back home from Victoria in a fortnight.
Turner transferred to Melbourne two years ago and enjoyed a good run under Leon and Troy Corstens at Flemington, but was dogged by injuries.
Two separate accidents kept him on the sidelines for several months at a time, just as he strived to make is mark against the very best Australian riders.
Soon after he arrived in the east Turner suffered a cruel blow when he dislocated his shoulder and fractured his collarbone in a track work fall.
Last March, just as he was hitting his straps again he suffered another major blow when he fractured his wrist while riding at the jumpouts at Colac.
Turner, son of Group 1-winning jockey, Troy Turner, has ridden more than 150 winners since making his debut in 2014.
He said it’s a good time to come back.
“I’m heading back and hoping it goes well,” Turner said.
“I’m coming back because there are going to be more opportunities at home.
“And I think in the end that’s going to help my riding.
“It wasn’t so much the injuries but the opportunity.
“I wasn’t getting them in Melbourne.
“I’m very grateful to Leon and Troy (Corstens) but, I wasn’t getting good horses.”
Turner’s first meeting back in WA has been delayed after he cooped a 14 day careless riding suspension at Edenhope on Sunday.
He is on the cusp of a milestone, just eight wins from outriding his metropolitan claim.
