The inaugural Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) Ownership Expo was officially staged on Tuesday night at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre’s Summer Garden.
The Expo was an opportunity for the general public to engage with key racing personnel to determine how to get involved in racehorse ownership and to gather relevant information for those looking to invest at the upcoming Magic Millions Perth yearling sale.
In attendance included leading trainers Dan Morton, Ben and Dan Pearce, major studs, Mungrup, Gold Front Thoroughbreds, Scenic Lodge, Touchstone Farm, industry organisations, TBWA, WARTA and WAROA, and Owners Only ambassadors, former, West Coast Eagles champion, Dean Cox and WA businessman, Rick Hart.
Hart is the newest ambassador for Owners Only, a dedicated program which recognises, communicates and engages with current and potential owners to bring the industry closer to those that invest in the State’s racing codes.
“Owners Only is a great initiative by RWWA and I was honoured to be a part of this evenings event,” said Hart.
“Owners play a critical role in the sustainability of the industry and therefore I think it’s important that these types of events are made available to the general public in order to be able to properly inform people about racehorse ownership.”
The Ownership Expo coincided with the barrier draw for the Magic Millions Perth 2YO Classic and Magic Millions 3YO Trophy to be staged at Pinjarra for the first occasion on Sunday, February 7.
The Ownership Expo also provided attendee Peter Coen with an added bonus after he won a ‘Racing Holiday to Broome’ for the opening weekend of the Broome Turf Club season later this year.
“I’m very happy to have won the competition and I am looking forward to a magnificent stay in Broome watching the races,” said Mr Coen.
Coen is also looking forward to joining in the excitement of Western Australian racehorse ownership with an up and coming unnamed filly with the Dan Pearce Stable.
“The filly will trial in a few weeks and hopefully we can get her on her way to win the 2017 Magic Millions 3YO race!”
The Perth Magic Millions Race Day at Pinjarra and the Magic Millions Perth yearling sale mark the one year anniversary of the Owners Only initiative.
The Perth yearling sale, an opportunity for prospective owners to potentially buy the next star of WA racing, will be held at Belmont Park on February 15 and 16.
