The WA Fashions on the Field ‘Great Southern Regional Heat’ was held at Albany Racing Club’s Ladies Day on Sunday 6 January.
Nearly 30 ladies entered Fashions on the Field, for their chance to score a spot in the Final.
Ainslie Jackson was the lucky winner of the Great Southern Regional Heat, followed by Marilyn Fagan in second place and Kristy Jachmann in third place.
Ms Jackson will now go on to compete in the WA Fashions on the Field Final to be held at Perth Racing on Saturday, 30 November.
WA Fashions on the Field caught up with Ms Jackson to talk about country racing and racing fashion, as well as the upcoming final, here is what she had to say:
1. What do you love about country racing? I love the relaxed nature of country races and the opportunity combine all my favourite things: people, fashion, fun and sport.
2. How long have you been going to the races for and what are some of your favourite memories? Since I was a little girl, with my family. My favourite memory is of my uncle and aunty presenting trophies at the trots and the associated feelings of pride and esteem looking up to them being important contributors to the community. More recently my favourite memories are the fun times I’ve had with ladies who share a love of FOTF and even watching my own children build confidence through the children’s FOTF.
3. Why do you enter Fashions on the Field? It gets addictive! I get a sense of achievement when a look comes together as it requires research, planning, creativity and individual flair. I also find it a great way to express my identity and connect with people.
4. Describe your style. I go for a different look each time I enter. I always try to be unique, have quality millinery and standout accessories and have some aspect that is on trend but the overall look can vary from contemporary to classic. I like being seen to be daring or “fashion forward” and conservative at other times.
5. What tips do you have for people entering Fashions on the Field? Start with your attitude. Be your own biggest fan in a humble way. Women can be terribly self-critical. This is a chance to enjoy displaying your individuality. Self-confidence radiates better than bling. Remember the courage it takes to be vulnerable to loss and judgement and pat yourself on the back for giving it a go. And then follow the golden rules about appropriate length/skin exposure, millinery, attention to detail with accessories and grooming and deportment.
6. What are some of your favourite things about the Great Southern region? I had my son whilst living and working in Albany 7 years ago so it holds a sentimental place in my heart. But who couldn’t appreciate the stunning landscape and those beaches. Climbing Bluff Knoll is a bucket list item. The Great Southern has an incredible connection with our ANZAC history and preserves and promotes it so wonderfully. And if you’ve never had a day at the Albany Racing Club, you are missing out on the joy of dancing on the grass at sunset!
7. What does it mean to you to be going to ascot to compete in the final? I am thrilled to have another opportunity to compete, having been in the inaugural group in 2016. I hope to make my family and the community I am representing proud. The prizes are incredible and dream worthy but I know whatever the outcome, I will have another fantastic experience of a lifetime bonding with other women and being spoilt for the time we have in Perth.
