Staples’ Esperance Quartet Consolidates Lead In Jockey’s Title

Lisa Staples has strengthened her grip on the Esperance Jockey’s premiership after riding four of the seven winners on Friday’s programme.
The Swedish-born Staples partnered raging favourite Cee I Ay and Ignite The Sky for trainer Brett Mathews and Jane Hossell stable mates, Makybe’s Me Aunty and Martinka.
Dark Shot, who gave Hossell a treble, capped a perfect day for Staples after her husband, Craig, piloted the gelding to a dominant victory in the last race.
Staples has compiled 10 wins since the commencement of the Esperance season last November, her tally includes doubles in three of the five meetings.

The trainer’s premiership is a much tighter affair with Cee I Ay and Ignite The Sky edging Brett Mathews closer to the lead.
The former jockey, who made a strong impression in his first season of training at Kalgoorlie last year, is five points adrift of, Helen Harding.
Bohemian Lass, an easy winner in race one and placegetters, Hockney and Foxy Commander, maintained Harding’s slight ascendancy.
