Fresh Is Best For Profit Street
Peter Giadresco is bubbling with enthusiasm that Profit Street’s good form on the training track can translate into a successful return at Belmont on Saturday.
The Viscount gelding is coming off a solid trial win and will be ready to fire first up in the New Season Sprint (1000m) according to the Bunbury-co-trainer.
“He’s had a couple of trials and has pulled up good from his last one,” Giadresco said on Tabradio.
“He is probably better over 1200 hundred than a thousand, but he will put up a good thousand fresh.
“I don’t know how much speed there is in the race which is concerning, but he is ready to go and is well.”
In a wide open race with many chances, Giadresco says the New Season Sprint presents an ideal opportunity for Profit Street to snap a long losing streak.
The eight-year-old, fast closing in on half a million dollars in prizemoney, had his last victory 735 days ago when he took out the 2017 Listed Bolton Sprint (1200m).
But Giadresco reckons Profit Street will appreciate competing against his New Season Sprint rivals after racing against top company at last year’s Ascot carnival.
He raced well without success, his best return in an extended eight start campaign came early when a first up third in the Group 3 Prince Of Wales Stakes (1000m).
“He just seems to be a bit under them,” Giadresco said.
“We were going for the big ones and hoping to pull one off.
“I was trying to grab one, but I wasn’t successful
“I look at him as a 12 or 14 hundred horse, but he can get away with one 1000 metre race when he’s fresh.
“I think there is a good win in him early.”
Profit Street has not finished outside a top three placing in eight of nine first-up starts.
He has drawn barrier seven in the field of 10 and will be under the direction of William Pike.
Lockroy, one of three starters for Chris Gangemi, has hold of favoritism ($4.20).
Profit Street is on the second line at $4.80.
