Crispin Backs In Multiverse For Belmont Newmarket
Trainer Gary Crispin has unwavering confidence that Multiverse can post his biggest victory in Saturday’s Belmont Newmarket (1200m) at Belmont.
Multiverse is facing his first test in Listed company, but Crispin has backed his gelding to get the job done.
Multiverse showed an impressive turn of foot to win over 1200m three starts back and backed it up a month later when he inflicted the first loss on Battle Storm.
The Universal Ruler six-year-old had his winning run dented last-start when unplaced behind Taxagano, running on fairly, but never a winning chance.
Crispin believes there could have been good reasons why Multiverse finished unplaced, but discounts the 1300m journey and a good track rating.
Multiverses’ eight career wins have been over 1200m and his previous back-to-back victories in June and July were run on soft and heavy going.
Crispin says he is prepared to support Multiverse to rebound.
“It was a tough run out wide, but before the race he was not himself,” Crispin told the Races WA.
“He played up in the barriers and the jockey wasn’t happy.
“So we will put that one behind us and move on to this one.
“Hopefully we can form into a better position and go from there.
“He definitely deserves to have a crack and I give him a real chance of finishing in the first three.”
Multiverse has drawn barrier five. Regular rider Jason Whiting retains the ride.
After as much as $11 was on offer with Tabtouch, Multiverse has firmed into $6.
Lockroy, one of two runners for Chris Gangemi, opened favourite, but has now eased to $4.
Stable mate Disposition has drifted to $16.

The Lindsey Smith-trained Great Again, from his opening quote of $7.20, is the current $2.60 favourite.
Smith’s other entrant, former Melbourne galloper, Tamasa, racing first up in Perth, is at $5.
