Geraldton Trainer Eddie McGuire
We are deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident concerning retired jockey and current trainer, Eddie McGuire, at the Geraldton Turf Club.
Eddie has a long and rich history within Australian racing and is a highly valued member of our industry. Prior to coming to WA in October 1966 at the age of 23, Eddie rode in Victoria after starting his apprenticeship at 16 years old, and was licensed as a jockey five years later.
Until the age of 60, Eddie rode mainly in Geraldton and Carnarvon, and from 1977 to 2002 had 3,099 rides for 419 winners. From August 2002 onwards Eddie worked as a racehorse trainer in Geraldton.
Eddie was unfortunately involved in a fall during track work and remains in a stable but critical condition.
We are in contact with Eddie’s family and are doing everything we can to support them, and they have asked for their privacy to be respected during this time.
An investigation is taking place in regards to the incident by WorkSafe, in which the Geraldton Turf Club are being fully cooperative.
