WA Racing Update – 13 July 2020
Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) advises that due to the increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases interstate, the following updated protocols will be implemented from 11.59pm, Wednesday 15 July 2020.
Racing animals from Victoria
The transfer of racing horses from Victoria to any Western Australian racing stable, licensed premises or racecourse will not be permitted until further notice.
Interstate Travel
Any WA licenced racing participant, or member of their household, who is travelling or returning from interstate travel and are exempt to enter WA must notify the RWWA Stewards as soon as possible.
Please note that any persons (including essential racing personnel) who resides in the same household as someone who has returned from interstate and is required to self-isolate/quarantine, must not interact with any other licenced racing participants during the 14-day period. Such persons will also not be permitted to attend any WA racecourses including race meetings, trials or trackwork.
It is imperative that anyone who is directed to self-isolate/quarantine must comply with the WA Police directions.
Social distancing and hygiene practices
Please note that physical distancing and good hygiene practices must continue to be adhered to at all times when on-course, including:
- Staying home if you are unwell.
- Maintaining distance from others where possible.
- Avoiding unnecessary physical contact with others — e.g. physical greetings such as handshakes and hugs.
- Washing your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitiser.
- Covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, using a flexed elbow or a tissue. If you use a tissue, dispose of it immediately and appropriately.
RWWA would like to thank to all race clubs, industry participants and owners for their understanding and patience throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. These strict bio-security measures are to protect the 24,000 people who are employed or participate in the industry, and ensure the continuation of racing in the State.
