WA COUNTRY CUPS
Last month our lovely WA Country Cups Fashions on the Field 2017 winner, Elizabeth Winlo, and her sister Christine Dunkerton, had a wonderful time in London attending Royal Ascot as part of her prize.
Ms Winlo won her spot in the final heat last year by winning a Fashions on the Field competition at a WA country race day.
As the winner of the Vernice Fashions on the Field at last year’s Toodyay Picnic Race Day. Ms Winlo was eligible to enter the WA Country Cups Wildcard Competition, where the public is encouraged to vote for their favourite outfit.
From there Ms Winlo received enough votes to win the 2017 Wildcard Heat and was therefore eligible to enter the grand final in Perth where she took out the overall winner’s purse.
Ms Winlo competed against nine finalists from regional heats all over WA including Great Southern, Peel, South West, Gascoyne, Pilbara, Kimberley, Goldfields, Midwest and Wheatbelt, but took out first prize in a fairy tale finish as the Wildcard Finalist.
The top prize included a trip for two to London with Motive Trave, to attend arguably the most famous racing carnival in the world, Royal Ascot.
Not only does Royal Ascot attract some of the world’s finest racehorses such as the likes of Black Caviar, but it is also well known for being a spectacle of fashion and style, attended by Her Majesty, the Queen of England herself.
Ms Winlo also received $10,000 spending money thanks to TABtouch, $5,000 worth of diamond jewellery from Leon Baker Jewellers and a voucher for handbag label Jessica Bratich.
Upcoming Regional Heats
This year’s WA Country Cups Fashions on the Field winner will also have the chance to win a trip to the 2019 Royal Ascot in London. While four of the Regional Heats have already taken place, there are still five more chances of making it into the Final that will be held at Perth Racing on 1 December 2018:
Pilbara Regional Heat – Port Hedland Turf Club – 22 July
Kimberley Regional Heat – Broome Turf Club – 14 August
Goldfields Regional Heat – Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club – 3 October
Wheatbelt Regional Heat – Northam Ladies Day – 7 October
Mid-West Regional Heat – Geraldton Turf Club – 14 October
Wildcard Competition
Just like Ms Winlo did, you too can be a part of the WA Country Cups Fashions on the Field competition by nominating yourself as a Wildcard. To be eligible, you must have won a Fashions on the Field competition at a WA regional thoroughbred race club, outside of the nominated Regional Heats. To nominate yourself, submit a photo of your winning outfit via the WA Country Cups Facebook page (via private message).
