All Day Session Follows Unconventional Guineas Path
Trainer Ashley Maley admits it’s been an unorthodox WA Guineas preparation for All Day Session.
Two sprint races over 1000m is an unconventional approach for an elite three-year-old mile race, but Maley says All Day Session is one horse who can buck the trend.
“It is unorthodox, but I basically ran out of time,” Maley told The Races WA.
“But if one horse can do it’s him, I wouldn’t have tried if I didn’t think he could do it.
“He is such a relaxed horse who can switch off and go to sleep in his races.
“He is just a cool dude and because of that I don’t think getting the mile or fitness will be of concern.
“I have no doubt he is going to be competitive.”
All Day Session bucked the odds earlier in June when he scored an upset maiden win at $41.
He then followed up and ran on strongly for second chasing boom filly Clairvoyance.
Maley said All Day Session’s previous win gave him a shot of confidence ahead of the Sky Racing-WA Guineas.
Lumping big weight, the Sessions gelding took the lead and was never headed, scoring by a dominant 1 ¼ lengths.
“I thought it was an arrogant win to be honest,” Maley said.
“He made light work of it and put paid to them easily.
“To do what he did with 61kg, only good horses can do that.
“He has an electric turn of foot.”
Bought for $33,000 as a yearling, All Day Session received a big boost after drawing barrier four.
A new rider is required after Steven Parnham sustained injuries in a fall at Ascot on Wednesday.
“It’s beautiful,” Maley said.
“If I could have picked my own barrier that would have been it.”
All Day Session has tightened to $34 with TABtouch after he opened at $41.
Gemma’s Son and Dom To Shoot share $4.80 favouritism.
“It’s an even race,” Maley said.
“There are many chances.
“I have a very nice horse in the race.”
