All Systems Go For Miss Lamarr
Miss Lamarr looks set to score the biggest win of her career when she lines up in tonight’s Simmonds Steel The Schrader (2130m) at Gloucester Park.
The Michael Brennan-trained mare has drawn barrier one for the $30,000 feature and will be given every chance out in front.
Miss Lamarr was unplaced in the $30,000 WASBA 4&5YO Mares Pace a fortnight ago, but hit the line well to finish third behind Just Makemine Diamonds last week.
Brennan said he was confident his mare had the speed to lead early in the Group 3 event.
“I think Radiant Amber is the only one that could possibly cross her,” he told TABradio.
“I’ve spoken to Michael about it and he said she gets out a lot quicker than Miss Limelight and Miss Limelight almost held Radiant Amber.
“We will hold the front and then it’s up to Mike to rate her because the main danger is on our back and she’s a very good mare Born To Boogie.”
Born To Boogie, unbeaten in three WA starts, makes her return tonight from barrier 10 and is a $2.70 favourite with TABtouch, ahead of Alta Louisa ($3.70) and Miss Lamarr ($5).
Chris Voak teams up with Born To Boogie and said he was hopeful the mare could play a part in the finish.
“From this draw, she will be driven for her speed tonight,” he said.
“I haven’t sat behind her since her last race but I’m sure Ross wouldn’t have started her if she wasn’t somewhere near the mark.
“We will need a degree of luck from that barrier and the opportunity to get clear.”
Meanwhile, Brennan said Whatabro would be “very hard to beat” if he found the front in The West Australian Pace (2130m).
Whatabro is the $2.05 TABtouch favourite but could have trouble finding the front with Bee Jays Boy ($3.60) drawn in barrier one.
