Allan’s Optimism In Madam Torio Sky High
A rousing track gallop has given trainer Martin Allan added confidence that Madam Torio can make a winning impact at Belmont on Saturday.
Madam Torio tuned up for the Peninsula Dining Room Plate (1000m) with a strong workout last Saturday and Allan was impressed by what he saw.
“It was her best work ever,” Allan said.
“She was working with Time To Sizzle who is quick and beat her.
“I was really impressed and I think she will be very hard to beat.”
Allan says Madam Torio could be considered unlucky not to be undefeated in her second campaign of racing.
The speedy filly has won two of three races by leading with her only defeat a fifth placing to All Day Session in June.
“We found out later she was suffering from allergies, so I reckon you have to forgive her for that run as there were genuine excuses,” Allan said.
“If you take away that performance she really should be undefeated, she is going really well.”
Tabtouch installed Madam Torio the $3 favourite. The daughter of I’m All The Talk has drawn perfectly in barrier five for Chris Parnham.
“She will jump and run to the lead,” Allan said.
“I think they will find it hard to go past her.
“Dark Assault could be the danger, but is first-up.”
Stable mate Sir Mambo is also a friend of punters in the Crown Perth Handicap (1200m), holding market lead at $4.60 in an open affair.
Sir Mambo, a War Chant gelding, is looking to bounce back after running last behind She’s Vital at Belmont on July 25.
“He pulled up lame with a foot abscess,” Allan said.
“But he has overcome that now and looks well.
“He hasn’t missed a beat and his work has also been good.
“He has performed well in this grade before.
“From the draw he should sit closer and box-seat.”
Sir Mambo will carry 60kg with the claim of Chloe Azzopardi and has drawn barrier one.
After opening at $3.50, Sir Mambo is an easing favourite.
