Community TAB Official of the Year Finalists Announced
Community TAB of Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) is proud to sponsor the 2020 Official of the Year Award for the 2020 SportWest Awards. The finalists for the award have been announced.
Michelle McMurdo – Gymnastics
Michelle represented Australia as a women’s artistic gymnastics judge at the 2020 World Cup in Melbourne, from February 20-23 last year. Michelle judged the qualification round on vault and beam as the Difficulty 1 judge. She then went on to judge the finals on vault and beam, again as the Difficulty 1 judge. The Difficulty 1 position on a judging panel is the most senior position on a gymnastics panel. The 2020 Melbourne World Cup was a qualification event for the 2020 Tokyo, postponed due to COVID-19.
Tammy Standley – Hockey
In hockey, a technical delegate needs to be an absolute full bottle on everything to do with the rules and regulations of the game, ensuring that all teams and officials adhere to the tournament regulations and Rules of Hockey, and oversee all official appointments. That’s where Tammy Standley comes in. Building on her appointment as technical director of the 2018 Women’s World Cup, Tammy has played a vital role as technical delegate of 2020 FIH Pro League for both men and women and has been a match manager and match judge. The FIH Pro League competition is the first to pit international teams against one another in a home and away fixture format, rather than a tournament. Tammy is a member of the Olympic Games panel and was off to Tokyo before COVIS-19.
Dion Panossian – Karate
Karate instructor and referee Dion Panossian can feel particularly frustrated about the impact of COVID-19 because the 2020 Tokyo Olympics were scheduled to showcase his sport for the first time. And, he was selected as one of 16 international referees – and the only one from Australia or New Zealand – for the sport’s debut appearance. Dion officiated at two Karate 1 Premier League events in Paris and Dubai before COVID-19 hit. Dion enjoys an elite standing in the sport, as chair of the Australian Karate Federation Referee Council, chair of the Oceania Karate Federation Referee Council and member of World Karate Federation Referee Council.
The winner of the Community TAB Official of the Year Award will be announced on Thursday February 11 2021.
