It’s time to look back over more than 170 years of racing in WA to induct a select few into the Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA) 2019 WA Racing Industry Hall of Fame, with considerations now open.
Calling for considerations gives all members and supporters of the WA sporting landscape the opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of legendary performers across the three racing codes.
Racing and Gaming Minister Paul Papalia said the WA Racing Industry Hall of Fame is a prestigious and high profile event, held every two years to celebrate WA’s long, distinguished and eventful racing history.
“The WA Racing Industry Hall of Fame will once again highlight and celebrate the contribution WA racing has made to the national industry,” Mr Papalia said.
“There is a significant following for all three codes in WA as a result of considerable history in metropolitan and regional centres, contributing to the social fabric of WA and the nation.
“The WA racing industry has produced a seemingly endless line of champion performers and some of the greatest will be inducted into the 2019 WA Racing Industry Hall of Fame.”
RWWA CEO Richard Burt said the WA Racing Industry Hall of Fame has gone from strength to strength since first introduced in 2007.
“RWWA invites you to become a part of honouring those who have contributed towards the ongoing success of the racing industry, not only here in WA but across the nation,” Mr Burt said.
“Racing plays a fundamental role in the Australian psyche and in the community overall.
“West Australians can contribute to racing history by nominating a racehorse or greyhound, a trainer, a jockey, a driver or an associate for consideration.”
The WA Racing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on Thursday 28 February 2019.
What does it take to be the greatest?
Is it how many times you win? How you win? Or is it the journey that becomes the greatest story?
