Country Racing Fashion takes on Big Stakes in Broome
The WA Fashions on the Field competition is heating up with the next instalment of the 2019 competition heading up to the Kimberley region on Tuesday, 13 August.
The state wide racing fashion competition is open to fashionistas from all over Australia and consists of nine regional heats held at major country race meetings across the State, with Broome Turf Club’s Ladies Day hosting the sixth heat of the series.
Racing and Wagering WA’s (RWWA) General Manager of Racing, Charlotte Mills, is a guest judge for the heat and believes such initiatives are important to further promote regional racing.
“Fashion is known as being synonymous with the racing industry and in particular fashions on the field competitions have become entrenched within Australian thoroughbred racing,” said Ms Mills.
“Country racing plays an integral part in the Western Australian racing industry, with a majority of race clubs being located in regional areas, therefore it is important that we continue to support and promote regional racing and its social aspects through initiatives such as the WA Fashions on the Field.”
Last year’s heat winner was Karratha local, Michelle South, who represented the Kimberley in the WA Fashions on the Field Final at Ascot Racecourse.
Ms South encourages ladies to travel to Broome like she did to compete in the competition and experience the beautiful landscape and attractions of the region.
“Broome has a rugged beauty with giant boabs, dramatic gorges, pristine white sandy beaches and spectacular turquoise blue water,” said Ms South.
“If you’re going to enter a WA Fashions on the Field heat, remember to smile as there’s nothing more appealing than someone who is genuinely enjoying being there and having a great day.”
The winner of the Kimberley regional heat will receive an invitation to compete in the WA Fashions on the Field Final at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday, 30 November. The winner of the final will win a trip to London and $10,000 spending money, plus take home a $5,000 Linneys jewellery voucher.
