EPCAD and City of Greater Geraldton win Community TAB Parks & Leisure WA Award
Environmental Places Creativity and Design (EPCAD) and the City of Greater Geraldton have been announced the winners of the Community TAB Best Regional/Rural Industry Contribution on 6 June at the 2019 Parks and Leisure WA (PLA WA) Awards of Excellence.
The Beresford Foreshore Enhancement Project, undertaken by the EPCAD and the City of Greater Geraldton, was an $18.8million project that addressed longstanding erosion issues and transformed the coastline, saving government infrastructure worth more than $55million.
The project involved coastal protection works integrated with high quality landscaping, including a shared use promenade, family picnic areas and playground creating a continuous high quality and appealing coastal environment.
Community TAB General Manager Matthew Thomas has been supportive of PLA WA for many years.
“We have been proud to support the Awards of Excellence for many years and stepped up in 2019 to become a major sponsor of the Best Regional/Rural Industry Contribution category,” Mr Thomas said.
“Community TAB recognises the vital role associations such as PLA WA play in ensuring a healthy lifestyle for Western Australians, both physically and mentally, and is proud to be affiliated with such an important organisation.”
“We take the responsibility of giving back to the industries in which TABs operate very seriously and we are thrilled to have been able to do this through sponsorship of these awards which recognise the excellent work of parks and leisure professionals who deliver enormous benefit to their communities, specifically in regional areas as sponsor of this category.”
The annual PLA awards recognise outstanding initiatives and the innovative effort of people who create opportunities for the good use of leisure time for a number of social, environmental and economic benefits to the community.
Kelly Park Playground Replacement by City of Bunbury/Active Discovery and Merredin Peak Play and Cafe by Belgravia Leisure were also nominees for the award category.
Regional/Rural Australia includes all of the towns, small cities and areas that lie beyond the major capital cities, who make a significant contribution through community initiatives which contribute to the parks and leisure industry. These projects can be play spaces, events, tourism, trails, programs, re-purposing of facilities and environmental initiatives.
