Fair Sonari Back In The Mix For Kalgoorlie Carnival
Fair Sonari’s Kalgoorlie carnival ambitions have been reignited after he returned to form with an all the way win on Sunday.
Repaying trainer Stephen Miller’s faith, Fair Sonari proved too strong in the the Goldfields Tattersalls Club Cup (1606m).
Under the hands of in-form jockey, Jade McNaught, the five-year-old son of Trade Fair rebounded after poor Belmont form.
In his four previous races he failed to finish any better than seventh and last-start he faded to a distant second-last.
Miller said the plan to take Fair Sonari to Kalgoorlie on the weekend had mapped out perfectly.
“He probably hasn’t been going up to expectations,” said Miller on Tabradio.
“I thought it might have been the tracks being a bit wet.
“Being a harder track we put him on the float and he did the right thing for us
“I was really pleased with it so we might have a crack at the Coolgardie Cup.
“I thought he ran through the line really well which he hadn’t been doing.
“If you have a horse who can travel up there and handle the track and conditions, it gives you a bit of a head start.”
After two trials Miller said his talented gelding Variation is ready to resume in the Listed Idyllic Prince Stakes (1300m) at Belmont on Saturday.
The only horse to win the WA Guineas and Belmont Guineas double, Variation has been plagued by injury since a close fourth to Great Shot in the 2017 Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m).
Miller says the son of War Chant was on track for his first run since April.
“I’m pretty pleased with him,” Miller said.
“I’m looking forward to that and hopefully he gets around safe and pulls up well.”
